Psalms for Daily Prayer
Throughout the history of the church, Christians have turned to daily psalms to support their spiritual life. This collection is based on the traditional selection, and is found in the front of the ELCA Lutheran Book of Worship.
We have recorded psalms for morning and evening throughout the church year. Several seasons have special psalms. The rest of the year is considered "Ordinary Time." There are four weeks of psalms which repeat to use in Ordinary Time. Week 1 is followed by Week 2, then Week 3, then Week 4, and back to Week 1. It's more important that you connect with God's word than that you are on the exact week, so if you aren't sure what week it is supposed to be, pick one and jump in.
For 2024, the following dates are for seasonal psalms:
- Advent - November 30 to December 24, 2023
- Christmas - December 23, 2023 to January 6, 2024
- (this is the only season where the psalms are said on specific dates rather than specific days of the week).
- Lent - February 14 to March 27, 2024
- Easter - March 31 to May 22, 2024
