Since 2000, St. Stephen Lutheran Church has been in a Companion Congregation Relationship with Lukani Lutheran Church, in the Iringa Diocese of Tanzania. Beginning in 2001 we have sent a Mission Team to Tanzania every three years; our next trip is anticipated in 2019. During that time, beside our visits, we have engaged in a variety of mission activities to build our mutual relationships. We have led Bible Camps in Iringa and Lukani, sponsored nearly 100 secondary and some collegiate students, sponsored an agricultural sample plot to model improved farming techniques, drilled 6 wells in Lukani (providing clean water for much of the village), assisted in building and supplying a Village medical clinic, provided bikes and a motorcycle to the pastors and evangelists of Lukani, hosted one of the Pastors in the US, and regularly have assisted in building projects – helping to build chapels at preaching points and most recently contributing to the completion of a roof on their new sanctuary. While benefitting the Lukani Congregation and Village this relationship has also helped us see beyond our own walls to the vastness of God’s people and work throughout the world.
