St. Stephen Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It was organized in 1955 as The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Stephen the Martyr. It has met in three different locations; beginning at Gall School on the corner of White Bear Avenue and County Road ‘E’, then moving to the house chapel (on the hill behind the current facility – this original church building is now a community clothing store and a youth room), and finally moving to our current facility in 1962. This current facility was built in three stages, adding a Sanctuary in 1973 and Narthex, Fellowship Hall and Nursery in 1982.
St. Stephen has had five Senior or Lead Pastors: John Schumell, Paul Dumke, Luther Olson, Daniel Brumm and James Woodruff; in addition there have been a variety of Associate, Intern and Interim Pastors. Currently the pastoral staff is made up of James Woodruff, Lead Pastor and Susan Schoon, part-time Visitation Pastor.
