Interim Children and Families Ministry Director

Job Description (August 2017)

  • JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for implementing children’s ministry (birth-4th grade); works closely with the 4-5 Grade “The Way” teacher and the Youth and Families Ministry Director.
  • Ability to work independently or with others in a multi-tasking and volunteer-oriented environment

  • Ability to be flexible in schedule, including Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings and occasional evening responsibilities
  • Embody a personal faith life that is enthusiastic and growing
  • Knowledge of the Bible and commitment to Lutheran doctrine and confessions
  • Bachelor’s degree, or working toward a degree, and/or formal children’s ministry education
  • 2+ years of experience in a ministry setting
  • Proficiency with email and Microsoft Office
  • Experience and leading events
  • REPORTS TO: Lead Pastor
  • WORK YEAR AND HOURS: Four month contract (September-December 2017) with the option to renew,
  • Variable hours, but on average 15-20 hours per week as negotiated
  • Required to work weekends and evenings
  • Implement Sunday and Wednesday programming for students PreK-4th grade using Media 1517 Sparkhouse ‘Activate Faith’ Curriculum. Activities may include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinating weekly lesson plans
  • Leading opening lessons, including music (may be supported)
  • Administration of milestones: 3 year old welcome, 4 year old prayer pillows, Kindergarten Bibles and 4th grade First Communion (February)
  • Coordinate stewardship opportunities in which children may participate
  • Select, coordinate and implement Children’s Christmas Program
  • Recruit and empower adult and youth leaders so that ministry is shared between staff and volunteers
  • Participate in the implementation of Trunks ‘n Treats (Oct), and Live Nativity (Dec).
  • Present children’s messages during worship as coordinated with the pastoral staff; manage the children’s worship bags
  • Coordinate 0-36 months Cradle Roll mailings with the Cradle Roll volunteer and present Baptism gifts from the church during service
  • Meet weekly with staff or lead Pastor
  • Manage budget and supplies
  • Create monthly page for The Steppingstone and bulletin notices as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Participate Weekly in Staff meetings or with Lead Pastor
